Jamie Houghton, an 11 year resident of Uxbridge and father of two boys has been the Chairperson of the UYC since 2007 and was a founding member of the Committee in 2006. He is a partner in Nova Pack Ltd, a packaging company in Mississauga. Jamie's involvement in the UYC began as an interested parent in our community.



John Wilson, Community Liaison   john@stillwatersshiatsu.com

John Wilson, husband, father and grandfather, has been a resident of Uxbridge for 33 years. John has been part of the UYC since its grassroots phase and is the Community Liaison Chairperson. He connects volunteer organizations, businesses, local clubs, recreation and entertainment events with The Uxbridge Youth Centre. John taught elementary school for 33 years and is now a practicing Shiatsu Therapist. In addition, John is a dedicated member of the Optimist Club of Uxbridge and the Trinity United Church.

Randy Loewen provides an extensive background in accounting to the UYC. He has been involved in the development of youth for over two decades, having served as a Scout leader for 16 years and as a "Project Business" mentor with Junior Achievement for 10 years. His involvement in the community also includes serving as manager of the Uxbridge Chamber of Commerce, and he is presently the Chairman of the Uxbridge Downtown Revitalization Steering Committee. Randy, his wife Jackie, and his three children have been proud residents of Uxbridge for 13 years.


 

Amanda Ferarro, Township Liaison     aferraro@town.uxbridge.on.ca

Amanda works with the Township of Uxbridge as the Manager of Recreation and Culture. She has worked with youth for over 20 years and enjoys coaching swimming and soccer. Amanda is very active in the community and is very happy to be contributing the youth centre.


 


Tracy Karkheck, Director of Resources

Tracy spent a very rewarding career in the Home Sewing Industry where she worked in Sales, Marketing and Education. She is a mentor with The Friends Group at Trinity United while also involved in other various volunteer activities. She and her husband founded and run the Zachary Karkheck Memorial Charitable Foundation for Youth in memory of their late son.




 

Bev Vanderpost, Director of Mental Health Outreach

Bev along with her husband Garry, own and operate Vanhaven Auctions and Exports since 1998.  Along with the Auction and Export part of the business, they also milk 35 cows.  Bev for the past 7 years has worked for a local optometrist, Dr. Ron McMullen.  She has been part of Uxperience for many years and involved in many groups in the community with her 3 children.  Her interest in becoming a board member of the Youth Centre is a very personal one.  She recently lost a son (Ryan) to suicide in April 2011.  She is now very motivated to bring Mental Health in the school curriculum and make people, both young and old, aware of the increasing number of mental heath issues.
 


 

Nate Mills, Youth Liaison

Nate is a local grade 12 student at Uxbridge Secondary School who has been involved with the Youth Centre since it opened in 2008.  He is heavily involved with both sports and music programs at U.S.S. and plans to work with youth in the future through the organization Younglife.

Vanessa's involvement in the UYC began in 2006, when, at an early public meeting, she put up her hand to get involved in Programming for the concept of a Youth Centre in Uxbridge. She was the Co-Chair of the Programs Committee before becoming the Director of the UYC in September of 2008. Vanessa's work background is rooted in Special Education, public service and youth. She is an avid supporter of youth culture and continues to learn and be inspired by the young people she is privileged to work with. Vanessa is also a potter, gardener and the mother of two energetic school-aged boys.

 


Hayley Waines, Program Facilitator    hayley@uxbridgeyouthcentre.com

Hayley became a part of the Uxbridge Youth Centre in June 2011 as a summer student and came on board as Program Facilitator in late August.  Hayley is a recent University of Guelph graduate, where she earned her Honours Degree in Psychology, with a minor in Family and Child Studies.  She has an avid interest in child/youth development and education.  These interests have led her to youth interactions in mentoring, program delivery and special education.  Hayley has a passion for creative and language arts and was drawn to the UYC because of its focus on fostering youth creativity and extending these talents to benefit the community.
